Our Story

Music Education Centers, initially known as Uncle Andy’s Place, was founded by Christian Schenk in 2004 with the mission of uniting his diverse skill sets to bring the joy of music to individuals who may have been overlooked by traditional school music programs.

The early years saw numerous transformations in both its business structure and service delivery methods, with the original studio starting in an extra bedroom before being relocated to a remodeled barn/garage in 2005. This studio served as their home until 2014 when, due to increased demand, they transitioned to a commercial location and later to The Piano Works in East Rochester.

In January 2020, MEC expanded to Watertown, NY. In July 2023, the East Rochester location closed its doors after almost 20 years in operation.

The Watertown studio is now the flagship location and is set to evolve into the Community Music School of Northern New York in 2024.
